Scott Cleveland, N.C. June 23, 1935 Madam, I have to advise you that from the papers in the Revolutionary War pension claim [S. /C.?] 6291 it appears that Zadock or Zaddock Griffith was born July 24, 1755 in Frederick County, Maryland, and lived there until 1793 when he moved to Iredell County, North Carolina. He enlisted in 1773 and served six months as a private in Captain Phillip Maroney's Maryland Company; was in several skirmishes on York Island and at Harlem Heights and was at the battle of White Plains. He enlisted in again 1775 and served five months as a private in Captain Winchester's Company, Colonel Charles Beattie's Maryland Regiment. He enlisted in the summer of 1777 and served five months as a private in Captain Hillary's Maryland Company and was at the battle of Germantown. He enlisted in the fall of 1781 and served five months as a private in Captain Hillary's Maryland Company. He was allowed pension on his application executed November 20, 1833 while living in Rowan County, North Carolina. It is not stated whether he was ever married.
