My bother is living in England right now and could follow it back further if we knew this info. Could you help here? RESPONSE: My source here says to refer to Steen's "New Aberdeen &c." pg. 14 and seq. Also note it states there were at least two if not more Anderson families in Mon. Co. The John Anderson you mention is stated as a brother to Rev. James Anderson, first pastor of Wall St. Presbyterian Church, NYC, and also engaged in the Scottish expedition to Darien. ____________________________________________________________ AYERS/CAMPBELL/SMITH/LAFETRA/ I am having a very difficult time searching for my Monmouth County Roots, because the names I am researching are so common---Campbell, Smith and Ayres. My original Campbell was James, who came from Scotland to VA i=circa 1800, and had a son JOSEPH SMITH (1809-1883) who married MARY ELIZABETH LAFETRA-by then they were in Monnmouth County. I was recently given a lot of Ayres info, but do need to check one thing---the birthdate of a LEWIS AYRES of Howell Twp. who married a Hannah, possibly Pike. he was born circa 1735, son of Benajah or benjamin Ayres (born 1715), son of Obidiah Ayres of Woodbridge, NJ. RESPONSE: I'm sorry but I don't have anything on your people. The people in the outline are just born too late for most of my sources (which stop around the end of the Rev War). I concentrated on the Ayers pair at the end of your letter, but came up blank. I did come up with some sources for the AYERS family in the "NJ Family Index": Chambers, Theodore F. "The Early Germans of NJ," pg 244-248 Crayton, Percy. "Rockaway Records of Morris County....Families." pg 81-82 Honeyman, A. Van Doren, ed. "Northwestern NJ" v.4: pg481-482 "National Genealogical Society Quarterly," v61; pg 258-259 Nun, Harold. "The People of Hackettstown." pg.93-95 ____________________________________________________________
