Elizabeth's death date on cemetery stone is 26 Jul 1839. Elizabeth and Watters marriage was c 1793. RESPONSE, 1ST: I've looked through everything I have and couldn't locate Elizabeth. I found Waters' family in "Gen. of NJ Families," with him married to her, but that was it. 2nd QUERY I very much appreciate your search for Elizabeth Davisson's birth documentation. You may have uncovered an important link. I would be very interested in the Gen. of NJ Families to which you referred. I do not have documentation of Watters' (Waters') Smith (15 Jul 1767-23 Mar 1849) and Elizabeth Davisson's (8 Aug 1769-26 Jul 1839) marriage. I would like to know more about this publication and where I might locate it. Are there footnotes referring you to their sources of documentation or is this publication considered documentation of sorts? Any information you could furnish would be very helpful. RESPONSE, 2ND: "Genealogies of NJ Families" is a two volume set of books containing data taken from the Genealogy Magazine of NJ. It has become quite popular with gen. libraries and is also now on CD, supposedly complete. Pages 750 to 787 in volume I contains workups on various Smith families in NJ, including the one producing Waters Smith. Waters' data comes from a Bible record; he is the son of Thomas & Sarah (Green) Smith. The family was from Maidenhead, Hunterdon Co., the father being born there and subsequently dying in Monmouth Co. Since this traces the family all the way back to NY origins in the 1600s you might want to obtain a copy. If nothing else, the NJ Gen Soc. will photocopy them for you for a fee. You might also be able to obtain a copy of the Bible record showing his birth. ____________________________________________________________ DEAN Please check for Jonathan Dean wife Margaret abt. 1770. RESPONSE: I can't find Jonathan in my books. Very little info on any Dean family members in general. Here's what I did find: "HISTORICAL AND GENEALOGICAL MISCELLANY," by John Stillwell, M.D. vol II pg. 262; Rebecca Dean d. 6/24/1790--Baptist Ch. Records of Middletown vol. IV pg. 139; Richard Mount b. 1/31/1788 m. Sarah Dean ____________________________________________________________ DEHART I am trying to find parents of a Cornelius DeHart. He was born abt. 1750. His mother may be a Catherine/nee Lane-Van Pelt. Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated. RESPONSE: I looked in all five volumes of "HISTORICAL AND GENEALOGICAL MISCELLANY," by John Stillwell, M.D. and William Hornor"s, "THIS OLD MONMOUTH OF OURS" with no luck. I looked in the "NJ FAMILY INDEX," compiled by Donald Sinclair, for sources and they listed the following books for the DeHart family: "Genealogical Magazine of NJ" 40:1-9, 50:38 "Somerset County Historical Quarterly" 5:27-29 "Welles, Theodore, "Ancestral Tablets" 328-329 ____________________________________________________________ DENNIS, JOHN I am trying to locate info on the Dennis Family in Monmouth. Specifically John Dennis, his mother was Catherine Dennis. He married Caroline Bennet 1/1/1850 at Long Branch. Residence listed as Squan. He was born about 1827/28. I have been unable to trace the line back beyond this point. Trying to find his Fathers name, dates, and anything else relating. The family is supposedly descended from Samuel Dennis of Shrewsbury ca. 1680, but I have no evidence to prove that..very thankful for any info you could provide. RESPONSE: I tried every book I own and couldn't come up with any answers. I did find two bits of info on a child of theirs, so I'm sending it along. CO Would you have birth or baptism records of a Robert DENTON or Jane MOON (or any siblings if noted) born ca 1714 - 1720 since they married 1738. Any information referencing these two surnames would be greatly appreciated. They are direct line great (x's removed) grandparents of mine. RESPONSE: I found the marriage of Robert and Jane, but nothing else denoted as related to these two. I found some info on the Denton family in Monmouth county books, no Robert, and again not much. Misc., would you please look up an Anne Longstreet who married a John Dey or Dye? I would like to know more about that John Dey, including his parents and date of birth. thanks! "HISTORICAL AND GENEALOGICAL MISCELLANY," by John Stillwell, M.D. Vol. I pg. 174 Parish Register of Christ Ch., Shrewsbury John Dey, son of Laurence, baptized at 1 month of age on 2/24/1751 pg. 192 Par. Reg. of Ch. Ch., Shrews. (cont.) June 9, 1765, baptized John, son of William and Hannah Dey of Freehold. I went through Hornor's "This Old Monmouth of Ours," because he had a workup on the Dey family, sadly short on dates and no Anna Longstreet. I compiled a synopsis of "Johns" from the work he did on the family. Only one looks promising (the one m. to Anna ?), but I thought the others might help orient you.
