E, 8th Reserves, was mustered in June 22, 1861 in Camp Wright (S.S. = State Service?) and July 29, 1861 F. S. at Washington, D.C. (Federal Service?) as Private. He was aged 43 at enrollment, with a dark complexion, stood 5' 9.5" tall, had gray eyes, gray hair, and was a miner by occupation, a native of Barkerstown, Pa. He was enlisted since June 30, 1861.
