Mr. Gisal was born in Hooversville, Somerset county, Pa. When a young man he removed to Irwin, where he learned the milling business and for several years operated a flour mill at that place. About 45 years ago, Mr. Gisal, with his family, took up their residence in this city. He engaged in the feed and grain business under the firm name of Scott & Gisal at Eleventh st. and Penn ave. Mr. Gisal later engaged in the contracting business. One of his first contracts was laying out the Homewood cemetery. At the time of Mr. Gisal's arrival in this city, East Liberty was farm land. He erected the old Gisal homestead at what is now Finley and Meadow sts., where he had since resided. Mr. Gisal was one of the first depositors in the Farmers' National bank. He was a member of the Sixth United Presbyterian church. He is survived by the following children: Mrs. Robert Scott, Mrs. Karl F. Miller and George G. Gisal. Five grandchildren and three great grandchildren, all of this city, also survive.
