Beside the table lay a miner's pick spattered with blood. Alois VEROINA, also a miner who lives near the place at which KINIFIAN stayed, was arrested shortly after the finding of KINIFIANS body by Sergeant Frank A. KREPPS, of the state police and taken to the county jail at Washington in the afternoon. He is being held for the coroner's inquest. It is alleged that Friday evening he and KINIFIAN had words after the latter had been called a thief. KINIFIAN had a family in Austria and was working at Bulger in the mines of the Bulger Block Coal Co., to save enough to bring his wife and children to this country. Friday was pay day at the mines and VAROINA, also employed there, is said to have accused KINIFIAN of taking some money from him. KINIFIAN is said to have denied the charge and a fight, witnesses say, narrowly was averted. Saturday morning KINIFIAN's body was found on the table. There were marks of a struggle and a pool of blood had soaked into the carpet where the head extended over the edge of the table. The pick, one of the small type used by miners and with very sharp points, apparently had been tossed beside the table by KINIFIAN's assailant.
