He was 46 years of age and had relatives in Beaver Falls, Pa., California and Iowa. He was a contractor for masonry and had been superintendent of stone work on the Pittsburgh, Fort Wayne & Chicago and Pittsburgh, Cincinnati & St Louis railroads. from the City of Pittsburgh Death Records: William LEAF, age 45 years, married, stone mason, died July 11, 1883, run over by an engine at Homewood Station Pennsylvania Railroad on July 3rd; born in England; lived on First Street; burial in Homewood Cemetery on July 12, 1883. >From census records, his wife is Rachel with children Emma, William, Lucy, Kate and Mary - this may have been a second marriage. Homewood Cemetery records note that he is buried in Section 5, Lot 90.
