James Love, Ph.D., on the roll of Monongahela presbytery but living in Orlando, Fla., and know locally as the supply minister for the Lockhart Methodist church, a veteran Bible student who enjoyed teaching the Bible above every other calling, died in a local hospital here on May 23 after a rather long illness. Dr. Love, 'director of education' at Knoxville college from 1890 to 1899 and called to the Chair of Bible in Westminster college in 1921, was born near Culmerville, Pa., September 12, 1860. At the age of seven he had read the New Testament through twice and committed almost perfectly the Shorter Catechism, it is reported. Before he had completed his 12th year he had read the New Testament four more time and the Old Testament twice. He was graduated from Westminster college in 1885 and from Allegheny (now Pittsburgh-Xenia) seminary in 1888. Wherever called to serve, whether in teaching, administration or pastoral work - and the latter included a connection with the Good Hope mission, Pittsburgh, from 1906 to 1920 - the records show that he was in demand as a teacher of public and private Bible classes. He especially is remembered for his classes and lectures at Westminster college before his retirement to Orlando. Dr. Love married Miss Mary Brown of Savannah, Ohio, who died in 1915. He later married Mrs. Alice E. Kirke, who preceded him in death three years ago. Several nieces and nephews survive him. Interment was in Savannah, Ohio."
