Mr. John Moorhead, one of the leading business men of the city of Pittsburgh,
died at his residence in Oakland, on Wednesday, 27th ult., in the 59th year of
his age. Mr. Moorhead was born in Indiana, but removed to Pittsburgh 35 years
ago, where he first engaged in the grocery business and afterwards in the iron
business. He was a successful business man, and it is estimated that he had
accumulated a fortune of over $2,000,000. A Pittsburgh paper says: Mr. Moorhead
was a thorough gentleman and a friend of struggling humanity. He was a member of
the Presbyterian church, and died in that faith. He was connected with several
public institutions, being one of the Board of Managers of the County Workhouse
and a Director of the Dixmont Insane Asylum. He was also a member of the Board
of Directors of the Exchange National Bank. He leaves a wife and six children.
The sons are well known in business circles, and his daughters are Mrs. Allan C.
Bakewell, Mrs. L. W. Daizell and Mrs. Rev. Wm. Holland.
