Tebbetts occurred in the home of his daughter, Mrs. John M. Galey, 6139 Jackson street, Thursday night. He was born in Rochester, N. H., 94 years ago and came to Pittsburgh when he was 17 years old. He was an instructor in the Western University of Pennsylvania and later entered the newspaper business as a reporter. In 1837 he wrote an article advocating the removal of the hump in Fifth avenue. Later he left for the West, where he was admitted to the bar and became judge of the circuit court in Arkansas. During the Civil war he was taken prisoner by Confederate soldiers and nearly lost his life. After the war he traveled extensively and settled in Harrodsburg, Ky., where he remained until 10 years ago, when he came to Pittsburgh. Mr. Tebbets was a member of the Christian church. He leaves two daughters, Mrs. M. T. Banes and Mrs. J. M. Galey, and a son, Major C. H. Tebbetts.
