Aurandt of 500 Thirtieth avenue died at Camp Cody, New Mexico, according to a telegram received by the parents yesterday. No particulars were mentioned in the message and it is not known what the cause of his death was. He had been in the service only two weeks. Wednesday evening his parents received word from the camp that he was seriously ill. The young man was aged 32 and was specially inducted into the service, the family not knowing what service he was attached to, his service was so brief. He left this city five years ago and since that time has been engaged as a farmer in the state of Minnesota. He was formerly employed in this city at the grocery store of Rhoads and Houck. Surviving are two brothers, F. E. of this city and M. F. of the west and Ada L. and Anna E. of this city. The remains will be brought to Altoona for interment. AURANDT SUCCUMBS AT ARMY CAMP George Harold Aurandt, a former resident of this city, died in an army camp in New Mexico, according to a telegram received by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Danel [sic] Aurandt, of near Fairview, yesterday. His death, according to the message, occurred on Thursday. During the past six years he resided in Minnesota. The young soldier was sent to camp about two weeks ago, and shortly afterwards was taken seriously ill. On Monday a telegram was received from the camp commander, stating that Aurandt's condition was very critical. A letter, not dated, but postmarked from the army camp on Nov. 4, was received shortly after the telegram yesterday morning, and this stated that the young soldier was feeling well, although he was suffering from a very severe cold. Altoona Times, Altoona, Pa., Saturday Morning, November 9, 1918 FUNERAL NOTICE. The body of Private George H. Aurandt, who died at Camp Cody, N.M., on Nov. 7, of pneumonia, after entering the army but two weeks previous, will be buried on Saturday afternoon at 2.30 o'clock from the home of the parents, Mr. and Mrs. D. W. Aurandt of 500 Thirtieth avenue. The body arrived in this city yesterday, and was removed to the home of the parents by Funeral Directors Lafferty and Tobias.
