He had been ill for about a year. The deceased was born at Barrow-on-Trent, Derbyshire, England, December 9, 1834. He came to this country January 26, 1852, and went directly to Frankstown township, where he secured employment with the Cambria Iron company and [remained for a number years. The same company gave him employment in Hollidaysburg, and he removed to that place. He remained in the service of the Cambria Iron company for thirty-two years in all.*] For twelve years he lived in this city and worked for the railroad company, having been last employed in the brass foundry. On April 8, 1858, Mr. Bancroft married Miss Margaret Markey, who survives with the following children: William B., Joseph C., Mrs. George Harpster, Mrs. Ed. Hurd and Mrs. J. D. Fluke, all of this city. He is likewise survived by a brother, Jesse Bancroft, and a sister, Mrs. Hannah Perry, both of whom reside at Barrow-on-Trent. Mr. Bancroft was a member of the Eighth avenue Methodist church. He also belonged to B. S. Davis lodge of Odd Fellows. He was generally esteemed and respected, both as a Christian and as a citizen and neighbor. He will be greatly missed in his home, as he was a man of domestic habits and devoted to his wife and children. The funeral will take place Sunday morning at 10 o'clock, services to be conducted at the house by Rev. J. Ellis Bell, interment in Fairview cemetery. Altoona Mirror, October 2, 1896
