Miss Catharine Blake Beyer died at 2 o'clock yesterday morning, in the Methodist hospital in Philadelphia. She was born at Beyer's Mills, near Tipton, January 21, 1840, and was aged 53 years, 3 months and 3 days. Her mother died April 24, 1885, and her father in March, 1887. Her home being then broken up she found a new one in the Deaconess' Home, in Chicago, where she spent three years, after which she served as a deaconess in Herkimer, New York, until the death of her sister, Mrs. Edmund Waring, of Tyrone. She lived in the Waring home till last fall, when she returned to deaconess work in Pittsburg and performed her duties faithfully until her health failed, when she came to this city and remained with her sister, Mrs. E. J. Kessler, till April 8, when she was removed to the Methodist hospital, in Philadelphia. A few days ago a surgical operation was determined as a last resort. The operation was performed last Friday and was seemingly successful, but she did not rally and died at the time mentioned. It may be added that during the war she served as a volunteer nurse. Her last hours were soothed by the presence of her sisters, Mrs. S. B. Bain and Mrs. M. A. Dysart. Her life was simply one continuous round of labor and self-sacrifice, and she has gone from labor to her reward. She is survived by four brothers and three sisters, viz: F. D. and A. W. Beyer, of Tyrone; W. M. Beyer, esq., of this city; Rev. J. S. Beyer, of the M. E. conference and located at Ralston, Pa., Mrs. E. J. Kessler and Mrs. M. A. Dysart of this city, and Mrs. S. B. Bain, of Juniata. The deceased was also a niece of David K. and Solomon Ramey, of this city. The funeral service will be held at the home of F. D. Beyer, in Tyrone, tomorrow afternoon at 1:30 o'clock, interment to follow at the Tyrone cemetery. Rev. Wm. A. Houck, Dr. B. B. Hamil, Rev. R. H. Gilbert and F. M. Welsh and others will officiate.
