Mr. Burns had served overseas with the 305th engineers and while in France suffered from an attach of influenza from which he never completely recovered. He was discharged from the service in May and was later taken to a Pittsburg hospital. After leaving the institution he returned to this city and attempted to return to work, but was again stricken, being taken to the Philadelphia hospital. He underwent an operation there recently, from which he was apparently recovering when stricken with meningitis. Mr. Burns was 28 years of age and following the death of his parents some years ago had made his home with his grandmother, Mrs. Jessie L. Farabaugh, of 2310 Beale avenue. He is survived by four sisters and three brothers - Mrs. Bertha Ritchie, Mrs. Julia Ritchie and Mrs. Mary Heinbaugh, of this city; Mrs. Sarah Miller, of Florida, and Deffy, Wesley and Sheldon, all of this city. The body will be brought to this city for funeral services and interment. Altoona Tribune, 25 December 1919
