DIVELY, ESQ., IS CALLED BY DEATH Well Known Young Attorney Passes Away at 11:30 O'clock Last Night Edwin Leslie Dively, one of Altoona's best known young men, a member of the law firm of Dively and Dively and one of the rising young members of the Blair county bar, passed away at his home, 421 Fifth avenue, Juniata, at 11:30 o'clock last night of auto-intoxication, a nervous ailment with which he has been ailing for the past ten days. The news of his death will be received with sincere regret and sorrow today by his scores of intimate and personal friends. Mr. Dively last fall was named as one of the attorneys to defend the Wendt brothers on the charge of murder. He entered into the duties of the court's assignment with vigor. It was in the midst of his labors that he suffered a nervous shock and was compelled to remain at his home. He grew worse and a few days ago his condition became critical. There was a slight change for the better for a brief time yesterday morning, but later in the day he began sinking and passed away at the hour above stated. Edwin Leslie Dively was the son of Attorney and Mrs. Augustus V. Dively, of 1324 Twelfth avenue, this city. He was born and reared here. On completing his studies in the public school he went to Mercersburg college where he was prepared for his life's career. He gained honor and distinction there as a debater and also in winning several oratorical contests. Later he entered and was graduated from Dickinson Law school, Carlisle. He was admitted to the bars of Cumberland and Blair counties and immediately took up the practice of his profession in this city in the office of his father. He later practiced in Washington state and in western Pennsylvania. He returned to Altoona several years ago and became a partner of his father, Attorney A. W. Dively, under the firm name of Dively & Dively. During his career he showed marked ability both in civil and criminal law and was rapidly forging ahead in his profession. He enjoyed the respect and esteem of both the bench and the bar. The deceased was widely known in the city as an athlete. He was some years ago one of the better known amateur ball players and was a member of the old Monarch team, one of the organizations that will be remembered as one of the best that ever represented the city on home or foreign diamonds. He was the possessor of a generous and cheerful disposition, was a hale fellow well met and enjoyed the esteem of an extensive circle of friends and acquaintances. He was a member of the Reformed church. He is survived by his wife, his father and mother and one sister, Mrs. William P. Beardsley, all of whom were at his bedside when the final summons came. The funeral arrangements will be announced later. Altoona Tribune, Altoona, Pa., Thursday Morning, January 4, 1917 BLAIR COUNTY BAR TO HONOR ATTORNEY Committee to Be Named Today to Act on Edwin L.
