The deceased was born in Baden, Germany, near the Switzerland border, May 3, 1815, and was, therefore, aged nearly 78 years at death. In his native land he worked at paper making by the old hand process. In 1851 he came to America and for several years thereafter was engaged as a nurse in the Pennsylvania hospital for the insane at Philadelphia. While residing in that city he was united in marriage to Miss Eva C. Heitz. They came to Altoona in 1862, but only remained here a short time, going to Tyrone, which has been the family home ever since. In September, 1885, he entered the Masonic home, at Philadelphia, where he spent his declining years. He was a charter member of Tyrone lodge, No. 494, Independent Order of Odd Fellows. He was a member of the German Lutheran church. Surviving the deceased are his wife and five children, Joseph, Mary, Emma and William, all of Tyrone, and Carrie, of Philadelphia. The remains will be interred with Masonic ceremonies tomorrow afternoon. Altoona Mirror, Altoona, Pa., Tuesday Evening, April 25, 1893
