A well known and respected citizen, died of tuberculosis, at his home, 409 Second avenue, at 5:30 o'clock this morning. The deceased was born in Altdorf, Canton Url, Switzerland, June 7, 1846. He came to American is 1873. He remained in New York for one year when he went to Martinsburg, this county. Here he resided until 1877, when he took up his residence in Altoona, and has lived here ever since. September 24, 1874, he was married to Josephine Bissig, who with the following children, survive him: Emil V., Mrs. James Shaffer, Joseph, Bertha, George, Charles, Herman E., and Irma Josephine, all of this city. The above children all reside at home but the married daughter, Mrs. Shaffer. He also leaves a brother and sister in Switzerland, and one sister in St. Louis, Mo. Mr. Furrer was a stone cutter by trade, which occupation he followed most of his life. He was proprietor of the stone yard at 615 Ninth avenue. For some years he cut stone for the railroad company during the summer months and during the winter worked in the planing mill. He was a thrifty and industrious man and leaves behind a fine home. He was an upright citizen in every respect and a good husband and father. Deceased was a member of St. Mark's Catholic church and the Emerald Beneficial association. Funeral Saturday morning, high mass being celebrated over the remains at St. Mark's church at 9 o'clock. Interment in St. Mary's cemetery. Altoona Mirror, Thursday, September 7, 1899, page 8
