All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/blair/ _________________________________________ JOHN HAMMER Aged 80, a retired employe of the Pennsylvania Railroad company in the Altoona works, died suddenly at 2 o'clock yesterday morning in his room at 103 East Bell avenue, where he had roomed for the past eight years. He was found dead by members of the family with whom he resided, his body being found lying on the floor. It is believed that he was taken ill and fell out of bed, the noise of his fall arousing the family. The aged veteran was born in Breslau, Germany, but came to Altoona fifty-five years ago. He retired as a sheetmetal worker from the railroad company service in March, 1927. Mr. Hammer was an honorary member of the Concordia Singing society and of the German Beneficial society. Surviving relatives all live in Germany, it is believed. The body may be viewed at the Stevens mortuary. HAMMER - Funeral services for John Hammer of 103 E. Bell Ave. will be held at 3 o'clock Tuesday afternoon in the Stevens Memorial chapel. Interment in Oak Ridge cemetery. The body may be viewed at the mortuary. Altoona Mirror, January 17, 1938
