All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/blair/ _________________________________________ FLORA HANSON DIES; RETIRED SCHOOL NURSE Miss Flora Elizabeth Hanson of 1117 Fourth avenue, well-known retired nurse of the city school district, died at 4.25 o'clock yesterday afternoon in the Altoona hospital where she was admitted earlier yesterday after only one day's illness. Miss Hanson had served the school district as a nurse from 1924 until her retirement in 1946. She was also a veteran of World war I, having served in the army nurse corps from October, 1918, to September, 1919, at Fort McHenry, Md. A graduate of the Altoona Hospital School of Nursing, she had engaged in private duty nursing from 1911 until entering the army nurse corps, and following her discharge from the service served as a supervisor at the Altoona hospital until 1921. From 1921 until 1924 Miss Hanson was a nurse for the Blair County chapter of the American Red Cross. Miss Hanson was born in Altoona, a daughter of Oscar W. and Mary (Voelker) Hanson. She was a member of Christ Second Lutheran church, the Delphi chapter, Order of Eastern Star, and the Business and Professional Women's club. Surviving are two brothers and one sister, Oscar W., of the city, Conrad J., of Philadelphia, and Mrs. John D. Martz of Greensburg.
