He was born on August 1, 1887, in Altoona, a son of Edward C. and Sadie (Hambright) Hewitt and was twice married. His first wife, Emma Alice died in October 1950. On June 26, 1953 he married Alice J. Filer. Surviving are his wife, three sons, Arthur L., Andrew E., William F., two step-daughters, Mrs. Colletta Leher and Mrs. Ruth Leher, 10 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and five brothers and sisters, Mrs. Belva Deprez, Mrs. Ruth Powell, Mrs. Grace Rooney, Ira and Harry. He retired as a conductor from the middle division in 1957 after 45 years of service. Interment in Alto Reste Burial Park.
