Johnston, of Claysburg, passed through the city last evening, having been suddenly summoned to Abbottstown, Cumberland county, by a telegram announcing the death of his brother, C. W., which occurred Wednesday. Charles W. Johnston was the son of Thomas and Margaret Johnston, of Woodbury, Pa., and was 40 years of age at the time of his death. He leaves a wife and three children to mourn the stroke which has taken away the head of their household. His aged parents also survive as well as his brothers, Dr. J. W., William, Major W. F., and D. S. His sisters are Mrs. J. R. Durborrow and Mrs. J. M. Berkstresser, of Huntingdon, and Miss Nannie, of Woodbury. He was a member of company A, One Hundred and Eighty-fourth regiment, Pennsylvania veteran volunteers, and was wounded in the service. He also contracted rheumatism from which he suffered much in the latter years of his life, and for the last year was a victim to heart disease, which terminated in dropsy. He was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church and a good man. His many friends in this county will be sorry to hear of his early death. The remains were taken to Huntingdon Friday for interment.
