Kanode, a retired farmer and former well known citizen of this place, died at his home, 613 Fourth avenue, Altoona, on Saturday morning at 9 o'clock, of heart trouble. He was taken ill about 8 o'clock while sitting on a chair and expired before the arrival of a physician. Deceased was born July 24, 1844, near Ringgold, Md., being aged 76 years on the day of his death. Early in life he came to this section and for many years was located in the vicinity of New Enterprise and Woodburg. Seven years ago he became a resident of Martinsburg and this spring moved to Altoona. Mr. Kanode was united in marriage with Miss Leora Ober, who survives with eight children. Mrs. Herman G. Miller, of Altoona, with whom he lived; Mrs. D. M. Nissley, John, Ira, and Jennie Kanode, of Roaring Spring; Avery, of Martinsburg; William, of Washingtonboro; Mrs. Harvey Lauver, of near Mifflin. Two daughters died in infancy. He was a member of the Brethren in Christ church where he consistently worshiped until life took a higher flight. Funeral services were conducted by Bishops Isaac Stern and Aaron Stern at the Brethren in Christ church, south of town, on Tuesday morning. Interment in the Replogle cemetery near Woodbury.
