At half past 4 o'clock on Saturday morning Mrs. Mary Jane Kean, wife of Charles Kean, died suddenly of heart disease at the residence of her husband, No. 704 Eleventh avenue. She was aged 54 years. Mrs. Kean had not been in good health for some time but on Friday appeared much better, did her usual house-work and retired at a comparatively early hour hoping to get a night's rest, having lost sleep lately owing to the illness of a daughter whom she had been tending. About the hour mentioned she awoke feeling very ill, got up, passed into another room in the hope of receiving relief but fell prone to the floor, and before her husband could get to her side, he having been called by his daughter, the vital spark had fled. Mrs. Kean, whose maiden name was Holliday, was born near Hollidaysburg. She was married November 3, 1853, and for eleven years past had resided in this city, her husband being an employe of the glue room of the lower shops. The deceased was a member of the First Methodist Episcopal church, a devoted wife and loving mother and a lady who, by her excellent qualities of heart and mind, had endeared herself to a large circle of acquaintances. Besides her husband, the deceased leaves four daughters, viz: Anna D., wife of F. H. Russ, and Mary H., wife of Andrew F. Stone, of Hollidaysburg; Miss Jennie, who is teaching school in Tyrone, and Miss Ella, who resides at home. One brother, William Holliday, resides in this city, and a sister in Iowa.
