The announcement of the sudden death of Joseph Kyle, an old and respected citizen, on Friday afternoon, October 24, was a surprise to every person. Mr. Kyle had been in delicate health for more than a year past, but recently he seemed to be enjoying reasonably good health again. On Friday afternoon, about 4 o'clock, he was seized with hemorrhages while sitting on a chair and almost immediately expired. Dr. Stayer was immediately called but could do nothing. Mr. Kyle was born near Waterstreet, Huntingdon county, where he learned the trade of making edge tools with a Mr. Cresswell. He carried on the business of manufacturing edge tools in Williamsburg and near Springfield Furnace for more than forty years. Some fifteen years ago he retired from the business and lived near Duncansville and in Taylor township, and since last April has resided in Roaring Spring. Mr. Kyle was an amiable Christian gentleman, a member of the Lutheran church for almost fifty years. He was kind hearted and charitable in his habits and beloved by all who knew him. He was married to Mary Keller, who survives him, with six children, Professor W. F. Kyle, John M. Kyle, Esq., well known citizens of this county, and Samuel C. Kyle, of the city of Pittsburgh, and three daughters, Mrs. James Robinson, of Frankstown township, Mrs. Henry Detwiler, of Huston township, and Mrs. George Wogan (?) of Taylor township. He was aged 74 years and 8 days. His funeral occurred Sunday, October 25. His pastor, Rev. C. F. Harrah (?), preached an impressive sermon. His remains were laid to rest in Greenlawn cemetery here.
