At 10 o'clock yesterday morning John Melia died at his home, 2224 Tenth avenue, of cramps. He was taken suddenly ill at midnight and despite medical attendance the attack exhausted his vitality. Deceased was born in county Mayo, Ireland, June 6, 1844, and came to Altoona thirty-five years ago. He was employed by the Pennsylvania Railroad company for many years and was held in high esteem by all who knew him. He was a member of St. John's Catholic church, the League of Sacred Heart and the Pennsylvania Railroad Relief association. He is survived by his wife and three daughters - Sister Marie Baptiste, of Greensburg; Miss Kate, at home, and Mrs. Lizzie Dixon, of this city. Two sisters and one brother in this country and the mother, a sister and one brother living in Ireland also survive. The funeral will take place Thursday morning, services to be conducted in St. John's church at 9 o'clock. Interment in St. John's cemetery. Altoona Tribune, Altoona, Pa., Tuesday, July 1, 1902, page 4
