Coroner Poet was called to Hollidaysburg yesterday to hold an inquest on the body of a little child named Charles E. Merritts, son of Laura Merritts. The mother was on a visit to her sister, Mrs. Kate Delaney, residing at Reservoir station, on the line of the Hollidaysburg and Morrisons Cove railroad. The child was aged 9 months and on Saturday evening last was apparently in good health when it was put to bed. The mother, her sister and three children slept that night in one bed and the two first named got up about 8 o'clock on Sunday morning. The children were then all apparently asleep. At half past 9 o'clock the mother of the child went to the bed and discovered that her little son was dead. The body was brought to Hollidaysburg, to the residence of D. R. Smith, father of the mother, where the testimony of the witnesses was taken by the following jury: G. V. Rollins, G. W. Sellers, Homer Dannals, Simon B. Barr, F. D. Young and S. H. Donnelly. The evidence of the physician was also taken. From the testimony, a verdict of death by suffocation was rendered. Morning Tribune, Altoona, Pa., Tuesday, January 13, 1891
