MONROE At 1.45 o'clock yesterday afternoon Mrs. Caroline M. Monroe died at her home, 2503 West Chestnut avenue, of pneumonia. The deceased was the wife of Rev. David S. Monroe, D.D., presiding elder of the Altoona district of the Methodist Episcopal church. Her illness dated from Friday a week ago. On that day she was making a call and sat in a cold parlor, with the result that she contracted a cold which developed into the disease which caused her death. Deceased was born December 3, 1853, in Frederick county, Md., being the daughter of Charles M. Pearre, who was an officer in the confederate army, being commander of the Texan Rangers. In the year 1852 she was married to Rev. D. S. Monroe, the ceremony taking place in Carroll county, Md. Her life was that of a Christian. She was ever doing good; was kind and charitable and esteemed by all who had the pleasure of her acquaintance. She was a member of the First Methodist Episcopal church. Besides her husband she leaves two sisters, Mrs. Laura Orndorff and Miss Frances Pearre, both residing in Westminster, Md. She is also survived by one brother, whose home is in Texas. The body can be viewed this afternoon between the hours of 3 and 6 o'clock. The funeral services will be held this evening, commencing at 7.30 o'clock. They will be in charge of her pastor, Rev. Horace Lincoln Jacobs, who will be assisted by Revs. A. W. Guyer, of Duncansville, and G. M. Hoke, of the Simpson Methodist Episcopal church. On Atlanta express Thursday morning the body will be taken to Baltimore, where the interment will be made in Mt. Olivet cemetery. Morning Tribune, Wednesday, October 18, 1899
