John Moulton, one of our very much respected colored population, departed this life at his home above Lincoln avenue, Saturday evening last at half past four o'clock, of la grippe, after a severe illness of but a short duration. He was born in slavery at Oliverville, Miss., February 20, 1847, being therefore at time of demise 44 years, 11 months and 16 days of age. During the progress of the late civil war 1863, when the 10th Penna. cavalry, S. L. Hewitt, of Huntingdon county, captain, was traveling through Mississippi, Mr. Moulton offered his services and was taken along as a servant. He remained with this troop until the end of the war when he came to Tyrone, in which vicinity he has resided ever since. For a number of years past he was employed as a passenger car cleaner in Tyrone yard. Besides his wife he is survived by five children - four boys and one girl, who are Jesse, Harry, John Grant, William and Clara Ray. Funeral services were held at the house this afternoon at 3 o'clock, conducted by Rev. G. F. Lyons, of Altoona, and Rev. R. H. Gilbert. The interment followed in Tyrone cemetery.
