Piper died suddenly at 8:45 o'clock Saturday evening, at East Juniata, following a short illness of heart disease. He had been attending to some business matters in this city on Saturday evening and had gone to Juniata to visit some friends, when he was taken ill and died in a short time. He was born in Carson Valley, March 22, 1851, and had resided in this city practically all his life. He had been employed at the Altoona Iron company mills. Mr. Piper was a member of the Church of the Brethren. Surviving are the following children: Mrs. Edgar Smith, of Juniata; Mrs. Cora Davis, of this city; Albert Piper, of Hollidaysburg; Jesse L., of Oklahoma, and a grandson, Chester Bernard, a member of the Eighth United States cavalry, serving at Fort Bliss, Texas. Two brothers, Silas and George Piper, residents of Duncansville, also survive. The funeral services will be held at the N. A. Stevens' funeral chapel, at 2:30 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, and friends and relatives of the deceased are invited to attend. Burial will be made in Carson Valley cemetery. The body may be viewed at rest room No. 3, of the Stevens' mortuary, any time before the funeral. Altoona Tribune, Altoona, Pa., Monday Morning, January 15, 1917
