POSTLEWAITE A former resident of Altoona and prominent in railroad circles and retired assistant vice president of the Pressed Steel Car company, died Thursday at his home in New Rochelle, N.Y. He had been ill since January when he suffered a fall at his home. Mr. Postlewaite was born at Mount Union, Pa., and was 77 years of age. He came to Altoona with his parents in his youth and was educated in the local schools. He began his railroad career in 1888 and remained in its employ until 1890 when he went with the Norfolk & Western railroad. In 1897 he became identified with the Schoen Steel company and played a prominent part in the development of the steel freight car. The company later merged with the Pressed Steel Car company and in 1915 Mr. Postlewaite became general sales manager of the company and a short time later assistant vice president. He was a member of the Presbyterian church and the Sons of the American Revolution. He was married in this city to Miss Charlotte Strattan, the daughter of the late George W. Strattan, master mechanic of the Altoona machine shops. He is survived by his widow, two daughters and one son. Altoona Mirror, April 17, 1943
