John Rice, admitted to the hospital two weeks ago to be treated for typhoid fever, died at half past 10 o'clock Saturday morning. He was employed at the Juniata stone quarries. He was taken sick in his shanty at Carlim and was not found for two days when his continued absence caused neighbors to investigate and his condition was discovered. He was immediately given medical attention, but his condition was such that after being brought to the hospital little could be done for him and he continued to sink gradually until death ensued. He was 34 years of age. The body was given in charge of Undertaker Arthur. Morning Tribune, Altoona, Pa., Monday, March 30, 1891 Local Brevities. The body of John Rice, who died at the hospital Saturday morning from typhoid fever, was interred at the alms house Sunday afternoon. Morning Tribune, Altoona, Pa., Tuesday, March 31, 1891 Better than two weeks ago the TRIBUNE announced the death of Mr. John G. Rice which occurred at the Altoona hospital on the 21st of March. His father and mother were both well known in this township, both of whom are now dead, and he and two sisters and one brother were left years ago to earn their own livelihood. His immediate relations live in this township and were not aware of his death until after he was buried. For the information of his friends we would say that after his death the hospital authorities turned his body over to Undertaker Arthur, by whom it was prepared for burial and was afterwards interred in the Fairview cemetery.
