SHANNON, A well known resident of this city, died at his home, 433 Crawford avenue, at 1:50 o'clock yesterday afternoon of paralysis. He was stricken about a year ago and received a second stroke on March 1. Just before noon yesterday he was again stricken and he passed peacefully away. Deceased was born at Newry, December 1, 1830. He was by trade a carpenter and had been a resident of this city for eighteen years. He was married in 1860 to Mrs. Elizabeth Stewart, of Frankstown, who survives with these children: J. R. Shannon and Mrs. E. W. McDowell, of Altoona, and Mrs. F. G. Bartley, of Pittsburg. He also leaves one brother, J. R. Shannon, of Wintersett, Iowa, and two sisters who reside in the same state. Mr. Shannon was a veteran of the late war. He enlisted September 12, 1861, in company A, Eighty-fourth regiment, and was discharged from this command on February 20, 1863, by reason of disability. On February 20, 1865, he enlisted in company D, One Hundred and Ninety-second regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteers, and was mustered out on August 24, 1865, by reason of the close of the war. He was a charter member of Post 468, Grand Army of the Republic. The funeral will take place Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock and the interment will be made in Greenwood cemetery.
