The funeral of Mrs. Catharine Shiffler, widow of the late George R. Shiffler, took place here Sunday morning at 10.30 when services were held in the Church of God of which she was a member. Interment was made in Fairview cemetery. Mrs. Shiffler was a daughter of John and Barbara Hoover Cowan, and was born September 14, 1838, being aged at time of death, November 16, 78 years, two months and two days. Ten years ago Mrs. Shiffler was stricken with paralysis, and since that time had been an invalid. Four daughters and one son are living: Annie Louisa, Henry and Minnie, all at home, and Mollie, who is employed in Brett's store, Altoona. She is also survived by one sister and two brothers: Mrs. Henry D. Smith, of Martinsburg; Edward Cowan, of Roaring Spring, and Harry Cowan, of Earling, Iowa.
