All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/blair/ _______________________________________________ DEWEY WEYANDT DIED MONDAY AT TRAINING CAMP Dewey Wyandt, son of George N. and Maria Wyandt, of 611 East Sixth avenue, died on Monday evening at Columbus, Ohio, where he had gone a week ago to enter the training camp as a soldier. Wyandt's death occurred in the barracks hospital at Columbus at 6.40 o'clock last evening, his parents and wife being with him when he passed away. He enlisted on Thursday a week ago in the field artillery at Harrisburg and then went to Columbus, where the day following his arrival he was inoculated for typhoid. Following the inoculation he was taken ill and was sent to the barracks hospital. His condition was such that his parents, George N. and Maria Wyandt, were notified and they went to Columbus. On Friday the young soldier was very much improved, left his bed and was able to walk about the hospital. On Saturday he was able to go to the dining room for his meals. Early Sunday morning his condition became serious and word was sent to his parents and they and his wife again went out and were with him at his death. The body was brought home yesterday and taken to the home of the parents, 611 East Sixth avenue, from where the funeral will take place at 2.30 o'clock Thursday afternoon, with interment in Hutchison's cemetery. Victor Dewey Wyandt was born July 8, 1898, and besides his parents he is survived by his wife, who was Miss Myrtle Gay before her marriage, one child, Adaline Marie, aged 1 year; two brothers, George of Youngstown, O., and Martin of Altoona; one half-brother, James D. of East Atlantic avenue, East End, and these sisters: Mrs. Margaret Cramer of 617 East Sixth avenue, Mrs. Morris Ritter of 611 East Sixth avenue, Mrs. Elsie Buchanan of 417 East Bell avenue, Mrs. Sarah McManamy of Greenwood, Mrs. Catherine Devore of 2016 Seventh avenue and Mrs. Florence E. Killinger of Juniata. Before entering the service he was employed as a driver by the People's Cooperative store and he was a member of the Second United Brethren church. Altoona Times, Altoona, Pa., Wednesday Morning, April 10, 1918 FUNERAL NOTICE The funeral of the late Dewey Victor Wyandt will be held at the home of the deceased's parents, 611 East Sixth avenue, tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, in charge of the Rev. T. P. Orner. The body is expected to arrive this morning on the 6:40 train. On this account, the funeral was postponed from this afternoon until tomorrow.
