Aged Ebensburg Resident is Dead 
John J. Evans, Eighty-One Years Old, Dies of Complication 
of Diseases
Nine Children Survive

John J. Evans, one of Ebensburg's oldest and best citizens, 
died at his home here Sunday evening from a complication of 
diseases. He was aged eighty-one years, six months and 
twenty-two days and he had lived here since he was thirteen 
years of age.

Mr. Evans was born in Cardiganshire, W. Langwyryfon, South 
Wales, and came to Ebensburg when a boy with his parents.  
He was a tanner by trade. He was twice married, his first 
wife being Miss Margaret Williams. The following children 
born to this union survive:  Mary A., wife of Dwight Jones 
of Guide Rock, Neb.; Mrs. Elizabeth Griffith of Ebensburg; 
Charlotte, wife of William Emigh of Batavia, Ill.; Chalmer 
of Batavia and George W. of Pittsburg.  Mrs. Evans died in 
1870 and in 1875 Mr. Evans married Miss Mary Davis of 
Ebensburg.

The following children were born of this union and survive:  
Morgan W. of Ebensburg; Jennie, wife of Edward Howells of 
Johnstown; and Miss Emma and Thomas C., at home.  One 
sister, Mrs. David Lewis of Salina, Kans., and one brother, 
Morgan Evans of Crafton, Pa., also survive.

The funeral took place at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon 
with services conducted by the Rev. Samuel G. Craig of 
Ebensburg and the Rev. C. T. Davis of Pittsburg.  The 
deceased was a member of the Calvinistic Methodist Church.
