He was probably the oldest man in the county. He was born in 1754 and was consequently 22 years of age at the time of the Declaration of American Independence He was a native of Ireland, but emigrated to this country shortly after the close of the Revolutionary war. He was the father of Colonel John Kean, now of Kansas Territory, who represented this County several times in the State Legislature. One who knew him well informs us, that he was a good citizen and a kind neighbor. He never sought for notoriety, but was content with "acting well his part" as an honest and unpretending citizen. His intellect remained unclouded to the last, and he died cheered by the hope of eternal happiness beyond the grave. May he rest in peace.
