Johnstown Tribune, April 14: On the 20th day of February Augustine Luther, who was employed by Mr. J. A. Shoemaker at the Coopersdale Morrellville bridge, was drowned in the Conemaugh river by the capsizing of a coat. Search was made for the body without avail and a reward of $25 for the recovery of the body was offered. On Saturday evening about 4 o'clock it was found by James Mardis and three other men lodged in a clump of willows at Conemaugh Furnace, on the Indiana side of the river. It was taken from the river and put in a box and word sent to J. W. Luther, the Clinton street tinner, a cousin of the deceased. He and Undertaker Howe, Louis Dopp and Mr. Howe's driver went down and brought the remains up. They were prepared for burial and this forenoon were forwarded to Carrolltown for interment. The face was very much swollen, but otherwise the body was well preserved. Deceased was the son of the late J. W. Luther, and made his home with his mother in Carrolltown. He was about 19 years of age. He was six feet two inches in height and finely proportioned. When found all the clothing was on the body. One gum boot was missing. The only thing in the pockets was a brass key, although it is said that the young man had over one hundred dollars with him at the time he was drowned. The reward of twenty-five dollars will be paid Mardis and those who were with him when the body was found. Undertaker Howe, J. W. Luther and Mr. Jacob Kress accompanied the remains to Carrolltown. Interment will be made this afternoon. Morning Tribune, Altoona, Pa., Thursday, April 16, 1891
