(Ebensburg, Pa.) 1867-1938: September 30, 1871 A young man named Jordan Mardis, son of Jos. Mardis, Esq., of Blacklick twp., who died Tuesday last from the effects of a wound inflicted on one of his knees, a couple of weeks ago, by a penknife which he was attempting to open by a slight of hand maneuver, and which flew from his grasp in the effort, the blade penetrating his knee and severing an artery and producing other injuries which after very severe suffering have unfortunately proved fatal. He was a young man some twenty odd years of age, but still lived with his parents, who have our earnest sympathy in their sad bereavement. His death should serve as a warning against the careless handling of knives and other sharp implements.
