Death of Mrs. Margaret Roberts 

After a month's illness of general debility, Mrs. Margaret 
Roberts Rowland, mother of John D. Roberts of Johnstown, 
passed away at an early hour Wednesday morning at her home 
in Iowa City, Ia., aged 85 years.  The deceased whose 
maiden name was Margaret Hughes was a native of Wales and 
came to this country with her parents many years ago.  The 
Hughes family located at Ebensburg where the deceased's 
father, Hugh Hughes, passed away in 1866.  Margaret Hughes 
and Evan Roberts were married in Ebensburg in 1840 and to 
them were the following children  born:  Elizabeth, Edwin 
E., John D., Mary, Margaret and Emily.

Evan H. Roberts died in August, 1851, and six year later 
Mrs. Roberts was married to William J. Rowland who died in 
Iowa City on December 26, 1905.

Three children were born to this union, as follows:  
Harriet L., Howard L. and Marie. The latter died in 
infancy.  The following other children of Mrs. Rowland also 
preceded their mother to the grave:  Elizabeth Roberts 
Edwards who died February 19, 1874; Edwin E. Roberts, 
January 17, 1863 and Mary Roberts, August 10, 1866.
