SCHOCH, Jr., Downingtown, an instructor in the U.S. Army Technical School at Miami Beach, Fla., writes that he enjoys nothing better than reading the Daily Local News and his home town weekly newspaper. “I cannot tell you how close they bring home to Miami Beach nor how much pleasure I derive from reading them.” He adds: “It is good to read how all people, regardless of race, color or creed, are pitching in for victory.” Private Schoch is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Finance. Corporal Allen H. BIDDLE, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Biddle, of Downingtown, is now stationed at Fort Riley, Kansas, where he is a motor student at the enlisted men’s student camp. Corporal Biddle was stationed at Indiantown Gap until recently transferred. He enlisted a year and four months ago and likes the army life.Horace M. BIDDLE, also a son of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Biddle, of Downingtown, has enlisted in the U.S. Maritime training service and is now stationed at Hoffman Island, New York. Horace will celebrate his 20th birthday the 18th of August. J. Truman UNDERHILL, formerly of Media and Moylan, has entered the United States Army with the rank of Lieutenant. He has been assigned to Lowery Field, Denver, Col., as a supply officer. Underhill, a graduate of Media High School and the University of Pennsylvania, has made his home is Chicago for a number of years. The son of the late Dr. and Mrs. Benjamin Mott Underhill, he has had experience in commercial aviation. The family of Lieutenant Underhill is well known in this section. His mother was the former Miss Georgia Cook MYERS, of Moylan, sometime resident of Kennett Square, daughter of John and Sarah A. Myers. Private Clarence E. WALLACE, of Malvern, who is stationed at Camp Funston, Fort Riley, Kans., has been promoted to Sergeant. Sergeant Wallace is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas E. Wallace, of 113 Green street, Malvern. Another son, Sergeant George Wallace, is now at Officers’ Training School, Fort Benning, Ga. Private Joseph A. PETERSHEIM, son of Aaron K. Petersheim, Coatesville, R.D. 1, has been transferred from Company B, 27th Battalion, Camp Croft, S.C. to Camp Edwards, Mass., following completion of his training. Robert W. TUNIS, son of Mrs. Robert W. Tunis, Bonnie Brook Farm, Kennett Square, has been promoted to the grade of Corporal at Barksdale Field, La. He has been on duty at Barksdale Field for five months as an airplane technician. Before Barksdale he was stationed at Fort Dix, N.J., and Jefferson Barracks, Mo. Word has been received from Private Clarence WALLACE, of Malvern, that he has been promoted to sergeant and transferred from Fort Knox, Kentucky, to Company E, 14th Armored Regiment, Camp Funston, Kansas. Clarence has been in the service 14 months. He greatly enjoys reading the Local every day. Mention was made in this column yesterday of the new location of Walter M. LESSIG, Jr., now with Company G, 32nd Armored Regiment of the 3rd Airborne Division, at Rice, Calif. Lessig, whose home is at 222 Lacey St., was referred to as a Private but this was in error as his ranking is that of Technical Sergeant. Private William E. DOWNING, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Ellsworth Downing, of Malvern, who spent nine weeks’ in training at Fort Eustis, Va., is now stationed at Camp Haan, Calif. Private Robert J. FINEGAN, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Finegan, of 513 North New street, West Chester, is now stationed at Westover Field, Chicopee Falls, Mass. Russell Harrison BAER, Jr., who enlisted in the Naval Reserves and left July 14th, is now stationed at Newport, R.I. Sergeant James FENNELLY, of Downingtown, who enlisted and entered the service on April 10th, is now located at Camp Beauregard, La.Corporal Francis FENNELLY, a resident of Downingtown, has been ordered to Iceland.
