Daily Local News, August 12,1878
"Sudden Death- Mrs. Wm. Hoopes, a highly estimable lady of Downingtown, died
suddenly on last Saturday night at her residence, of paralysis. Deceased was
noted for her charitable deeds, and was always a true friend in time of need.
She was about 45 years of age, and her death serves to cast a pallor of gloom
over the entire neighborhood where she was so favorably known."

Additional Comments:
My great grandmother, Hannah Whitaker, became an orphan at age 9 in June, 1859.
She was taken in by Mrs. Hoopes and her husband William B. Hoopes and raised as
their daughter. Hannah was from Berks county. Elizabeth Hoopes was a Mengel from
Morgantown,Berks county.
