GEORGE SMEAL Alda Courtney Smeal, widow of the late George Smeal, died at the Clearfield hospital Aug. 13, 1927, following an operation. She was born Dec. 12, 1860, her age being 66 years 8 months and 1 day. She was united in marriage to George Smeal in her early twenties, living on a farm in Pike township better known as the Bailey settlement. She was a member of the Methodist church since early childhood, always active in her church work, being a loving mother and always ready to help the sick. She was also a member of the Curwensville Grange for a number of years. She is survived by one sister, Mrs. John Astles of Home Camp, and the following children: Frank Smeal, Akron, Ohio; Carrie Witherow, Clearfield, Stella Cunningham, Mifflintown; Alfred Smeal, Curwensville; Walter Smeal, Clearfield; John Smeal, Pleasant Grove; Clair Smeal, Akron, Ohio; and seventeen grandchildren. Three children preceded her in earlier years. The funeral services were held Aug. 16th, at two o'clock at her home in Pleasant Gove, conducted by Rev. Taylor of Centre and Rev. Heckman, of Trinity Methodist church, Clearfield. Interment at Centre.
