D. S. S. Shaffer was born in Chambersburg, Pa., October 5, 1892, a son of John W. and Martha A. (Leberknight) Shaffer. He received his education in the schools of his native town, graduating from the High School with the Class of 1912. Later he studied medicine with Dr. B. F. Myers in Chambersburg and after the usual course of lectures was graduated M. D. in 1919 from the University of Maryland, Baltimore. Dr. Shaffer served as interne (sic) for one year in Bay View Hospital, Baltimore, and was then for two years in general practice at Union Bridge, Md. In 1921 he received the appointment of resident physician at the Maryland State Sanitorium for Tuberculosis and is now in this service. Dr. Shaffer is the Roentgenologist for this institution. He belongs to the Medical Reserve Corps, is a Democrat in politics and a member of the Lutheran Church. In 1924 he married Miss Rose E. Lund.
