RIPPLE, lumberman, Rockhill, Huntingdon county, Pa., was born October 20, 1858, in Cromwell township, son of John L. and Eliza Jane (Cloyd) Ripple. He received his primary education in the public schools of Orbisonia. When nine or ten years old he was employed in carrying water for the hands working on the railroad, receiving $1.25 per day. He was afterwards clerk in the store of Whiteside & Reed for one year; then in the employ of the Rockhill Iron and Coal Company, as errand boy, afterwards as weighmaster, still later as clerk and assistant book-keeper. After being in their employ over nineteen years, he embarked in the lumber business with O. W. Moore, and is still so engaged. He holds stock in the Union National Bank of Huntingdon, and in many other concerns. In 1895 he was defeated for sheriff by but one hundred and twenty-eight votes. In 1878 at Curwensville, Clearfield county, he married Miss Iris V. Bell, and has two children: Florence D.; and George B. Mr. Ripple is a Republican. He has served as secretary of the school board since the organization of the borough. He was reared a Methodist, is strictly self-made, and highly esteemed by all.
