Death of an Aged and Much Respected Woman at Birmingham, Pa. Our Birmingham correspondent writes as follows: While the rising of yesterday's sun brought gladness into the homes of many of our people, there was one in our quiet town in which during the silent hours of the night a loved mother was called to her final reward to reap the rich rewards of a long and useful life of good deeds while in the Master's cause here upon the earth. The subject of this notice was Mrs. Keziah Deitrich [sic], who on Thursday evening retired for the night in the best of health and who, only a few short hours later from a stroke of paralysis of the heart, was in the cold embraces of death, surrounded by those nearest and dearest to her by the ties of nature. The deceased was the daughter of James and Sarah Thompson, and was born in the quiet little town in which she died on the 16th of April, 1817, which would make her age at the time of her death 73 years, 11 months and 4 days. At the age of 18 years she was united in marriage to Mr. Henry Deitrich and to the union was born eight children, two sons and six daughters, five of whom along with their father have crossed to the other shore; and those who remain now to suffer the loss of a kind and affectionate mother are Mrs. David Reynolds, of Red Bank, Pa., and Mrs. George W. Owens and Mr. F. A. Deitrich, of this place. With the exception of a few years that she lived in Clarion county the whole of her life, from childhood to the ripe old age at which she died, was spent here among the hills and along the banks of the Juniata. Besides the members of her immediate family she leaves ten brothers and one sister, Johnston Thompson, of Franklin, Pa.; John R. Thompson and Mrs. Mary Ann Owens, of this place, along with scores of other surviving friends and relatives to mourn the death of one whose friendship was a blessing. The last hours of her life were spent in perusing the pages of Holy Writ, that when she went to her accustomed place in the Sunday school she might be prepared to take part and answer the questions asked intelligently. 'Twas in the little old church on the hillside where she first knelt and asked God to speak to her the light of day, that she might enter into a full and entire consecration of His work. Over sixty years in the cause of Christ, and this fact along with the one that almost the last moments of her life were spent reading the greatest and best of all books, is to-day a sufficient guarantee that she is safe within the harbor. The writer has the most pleasant recollections of this good woman, who for almost a score of years found a home in her house and among the members of her family. The funeral services will take place on Monday afternoon at 3 o'clock, at their home on Market street. The services will be in charge of Rev. William Brill, assisted by Rev. H. R. Bender, of the Eighth avenue, and Rev. H. H. Henry, of the Presbyterian church, this place. Immediately after the services her remains will be interred in the little graveyard on the hillside. Peace to her ashes. Morning Tribune, Altoona, Pa., Saturday, March 21, 1891 1850 Birmingham, Huntingdon County census - Keziah Detrich, 33 Fielding Detrich, 15 Sarah E. Detrich, 12 M. M.
