DOLE A Good Man Gone to His Reward. Rev. A. G. Dole, former pastor of the Reformed church, of this city, died at his residence, corner of Third and Allegheny streets, about midnight on Saturday. The immediate cause of his death was kidney trouble, which confined him to his bed only a few days, but for a year past his declining health was the cause of solicitude on the part of his friends. Mr. Dole was born at Glassboro, New Jersey, September 22, 1815, and was aged 72 years and 23 days at the time of his death. His parents were poor, and being left to his own resources when a young man he applied himself assiduously to study and by extraordinary sacrifice and economy succeeded in obtaining a seven years preparatory course in Rutner's college and then entered Mercersburg theological seminary, where he graduated in 1843. His first charge was at Boonsboro, Maryland, where he remained seven years. He next went to Fairfield, Ohio, where he remained one year. Next to Milton, Pa., thirteen years; West Philadelphia, four years; Shippensburg, three years; and came to Huntingdon in 1872, remaining as pastor of the Reformed church until April, 1885, thirteen years, making an almost continuous service in the ministry of forty-two years. He was an earnest and faithful minister of Christ, and in his death the cause of the Master has lost a zealous and fearless advocate, one who was ever ready to bear any burden for the advancement of Christianity and the pleasure to be derived in instructing his hearers how to attain that "better life." A good man has fallen, and while the church has lost much, heaven has gained more. Deceased leaves a wife and five children, Mrs. Kate DeHuff, Miss Lizzie Dole, Mrs. Wm. H. Smith, of Huntingdon; Mrs. Rev. Charles E. Hay, of Allentown, and John J. Dole, of Woodland, Clearfield county, Pa. Funeral services were held at his late residence on Tuesday afternoon, and on Wednesday the remains were taken to Philadelphia and interred in Woodland cemetery.
