The usually quiet village of Huntingdon was considerably surprised on Saturday morning by the announcement that Miss Mary Long had committed suicide by taking arsenic, during the preceding night. For some time a young man named Smith had been paying Miss Long assiduous attention, which were reciprocated by the young lady, and would in all probability have ended in a hymeneal contract, but for the perfidious qualities of the young man. This so preyed upon the mind of Miss Long as to cause her to become melancholy, and commit suicide. She is the daughter of very respectable parents, who are farmers, living on the suburbs of Huntingdon. The affair has caused considerable comment in the sad way in which Miss Long ended her existence. Morning Tribune, Altoona, Pa., Tuesday, June 1, 1880
