Mr. Samuel Mattern
 
  Mr. Samuel Mattern, father of our townsman, John W. Mattern, esq., 
died at his residence in Franklinville, this county, on Sunday last, at 
the ripe old age of 86 years.  For many years, Mr. Mattern was a 
consistent member of the M. E. Church and took an active part in Sunday 
school work.
