Shafer Sr., 94, a resident of the Woodland Retirement Center, Orbisonia, formerly of 119 State Street, Kistler, Mount Union, where he lived for 63 years, died at 12:03 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 10, 2000, at Woodland. Private funeral services were held on Wednesday, Dec. 13, at the convenience of the family, at the Robert D. Health Funeral Home, Mount Union, with Vicar Shelby DePriest officiating. Interment was made in the Mount Union Cemetery. Born Feb. 14, 1906, in Saltillo, he was the son of the late Harvey and Myrtle (Hamilton) Shafer. He was united in marriage to Olive M. (Clark) Shafer, whom he married on July 16, 1926. His wife preceded him in death on March 13, 1982. Surviving is a son, Charles R. Shafer Jr. of RR3 Mount Union. Also surviving are three grandchildren, one great-granddaughter and his brother, Ira Shafer of California. He was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister. Mr. Shafer attended the Mount Union schools. He was a retired machinist of 43 years of service, with the North American Brick Refractory, Mount Union. Mr. Shafer was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a lifetime member of the NRA. He was a member of the St. Luke Lutheran Church, Mount Union. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Luke Lutheran Church, c/o Mrs. Stella Carlisle, 36 E.
