All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/pafiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Betsy Hermann betz12@aol.com May 25, 2008, 7:56 pm Indiana Gazette October 1960 IDA BELLE JEFFRIES, Indiana County native, died suddenly at her home in Bakersfield, California, Friday, October 14, 1960, at 2:30 o'clock p.m. A daughter of James and Mary Ellen Hamilton Jeffries, she was born in Grant Township on March 22, 1867. Miss Jeffries, her mother, one brother and two sisters located in California about 1907, all of whom are now deceased. She leaves to survive in the West a nephew and a niece, children of Calvin C. Jeffries: Dwight A Jeffries of Bakersfield and Mercedes Hathaway of Long Beach. She was a sister-in-law of Sadie N. Jeffries, late of West Philadelphia Street, who passed away in June of this year and in the East five nieces, the daughters of her brother, Frank, namely: Leopolde Van Leer, Celia Drummond, Genevieve Stephenson, Pearle Mauk and Helen Patterson, also survive. In 1935 and again in 1947 Miss Jeffries visited her sister-in-law and other relatives in the East. Hers was a true Christian spirit where ever there was need of a helping hand among her family, her friends or in the neighborhood, she was there. She cared for her aged mother and reared her brother Calvin's two motherless children. For many years Miss Jeffries and her brother Calvin were associated in business in the operation of the Jeffries Market in Bakersfield. After retirement, her chief enjoyment was her flower garden. Funeral services will be conducted at the Payne Funeral Home on Tuesday monring at 10 o'clock with interment in Bakersfield.
